South Africa - Embracing Efficiency & Technology…
National Health Laboratory Services See Marked Improvements In Efficiency After Partnering With Powerhouse Dictation & Winscribe
The National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS) is the largest diagnostic pathology service in South Africa, with the responsibility of supporting the national and provincial health departments in the delivery of healthcare. The NHLS provides laboratory and related public health services to over 80% of the population through a national network of laboratories.
NHLS approached Powerhouse Dictation for guidance on dictation (reporting) systems incorporating workflow functionality. Powerhouse Dictation suggested Winscribe Dictation as the perfect solution for the governing body’s requirements and set up a short trial.
After a brief pilot period, NHLS users quickly experienced the improvements in workflow. Users are now able to instantly locate reports and know their status. Pathologists in particular found it most beneficial, as they could distribute the workload evenly among typists, reducing the turnaround times of reports. Typists found that when the backlog of transcription was vastly reduced allowing them to reach turnaround targets.
Winscribe Dictation and Speech Recognition was rolled out in late 2013 and is currently being used by all the pathologists in the Free-State laboratory. NHLS staff are very pleased with the solution and, for the last two years, have seen significant improvements in documentation across the organisation. The biggest win has been a large reduction in the turnaround time of those documents.
Doron Mansur, Director at Powerhouse comments:
“Supporting the clinical team at NHLS over the years has been a real pleasure, and I am happy they’re still realising benefits from the solution and our close relationship. Joe and the Winscribe are always great to work with and this just presents another success of our partnership”
Joe DiCarlo, Winscribe Channel Relationship Manager says:
“It is great to see what NHLS have achieved in a relativity short period of time. Winscribe technology is leading the way to better patient care and this is something we are very proud of. It is a pleasure working closely with Doron and the Powerhouse team for many years now, and consider them as part of our Winscribe family.
